You know that old saying ‘pain is beauty’. We seem to think if it tastes bad it must be good for us, if it stings, tingles, burns, it means it’s working. Yeah, I’m not buying it! Skincare Products shouldn’t hurt to work!Being advised that ‘if you can ‘feel it you know it’s working’ is misleading and it’s actually doing the opposite.
If a product is causing discomfort, it’s your skin trying to let you know that it’s in a state of inflammation or destruction. Burning off a layer of skin with an acid that tingles.... it’s tingling because it’s burning off a layer of living cells!!! We seem to be caught up on ‘earning’ results:
-
sore muscles from exercise= abs⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-
bland or bad tasting= healthy⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-
exhausted from overworking= good employee⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Good skin doesn’t need to be earned by withstanding skincare products that inherently harm the skins barrier. I’ve seen too many people persevere with the incorrect products because the 'pain is beauty' ideal kept them feeling like if they could feel something happening, it must be working. ⠀
Don’t mistake ‘tingling’ for active!!! And don’t underestimate the activity of a product just because you can’t ‘feel’ it!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've had quite a few people lately reach out because their skin was feeling under attack by their skin care products. I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it... If you skin is tingly, burny, itchy, feeling heated, or stinging, ditch the products! They’re not serving your skin!! ⠀
